Global Wellness Day: The Power of CBD

Global Wellness Day: The Power of CBD

Amidst the overwhelming demands of our modern world, with the rapid advancements in AI, the allure of fast fashion, and the temptation of excessive consumerism, there is a systematic need for us to pause, slow down and redirect our focus to what truly matters: our health and well-being. While we often extend our wishes for good health to our loved ones, we must also recognise that true wellness starts from within ourselves.

As we approach the celebration of Global Wellness Day on the 10th June - an annual international event dedicated to promoting health and enhancing the quality of life - it’s crucial to acknowledge the power of CBD and its potential to contribute to our overall wellness.

The significance of Global Wellness Day lies in its mission to raise awareness and motivate people to make conscious, positive lifestyle changes that ultimately lead to a happier and healthier existence – an aspiration that Love Hemp strongly shares. Global Wellness Day is celebrated across the globe, transcending borders, cultures, and backgrounds, bringing people together in a collective commitment to wellness. It fosters a sense of unity on a worldwide scale, emphasising that the pursuit of well-being is a universal concern.

When it comes to achieving peak wellness, understanding three fundamental pillars can simplify our journey towards better health:

  • What we put in our bodies
  • What we do with our bodies
  • How we look after our minds

By adopting this 3-pronged approach to wellness, we can make informed decisions that prioritise our health and enhance our overall quality of life. Introducing CBD as part of this comprehensive wellness routine can offer a multitude of potential benefits.

Nourishing our bodies with the right substances

  • Incorporate whole plant-based foods such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes, or pulses into every meal.
  • Hydrate adequately and aim to drink 3 litres of water a day.
  • Consider an intake of pre and probiotics to improve gut health, either through supplements or food sources.
  • Reduce sugar intake by cutting out fizzy drinks or sweet snacks.

Engaging in physical activities that benefit our overall well-being

  • Move more! Engaging in a variety of exercises will improve various aspects of your physical wellbeing - including calorie and fat burning, cardiovascular function improvement, bone and muscle strengthening, and sleep.
  • Embrace daily stretching as a means of relaxation, muscle stimulation, and injury prevention. Never underestimate the power of a good stretch - it feels damn good!
  • Practising daily breathwork, even for a few minutes a day can calm the mind, oxygenate the body, and promote resilience towards everyday stress. World famous breathwork expert and so-called “Iceman” Wim Hoff has studied the benefits of breathwork. He says:
“By practising the breathing exercises, you are releasing more energy, influencing your nervous system and changing various physiological responses. You are inducing voluntarily a short stress response which ultimately will lead to more resilience towards everyday stress, mentally and physically and feeling more in control”

Taking care of our mental health

  • Prioritise the previous tips listed above with each of them having a positive impact on your mental health. Moving more and eating a balanced, nutritionally dense diet can enhance your mood, reduce your stress levels and improve the quality of your sleep
  • Engage in mindful activities that capture your interest, allowing you to be fully present and focused. Whether that be something calming and creative like painting or a high-octane activity like BMX biking, immersing yourself in a fulfilling hobby prevents your mind from wandering into darker places and leaves you with a sense of satisfaction
  • Practice gratitude. We’ve heard it all before but expressing daily gratitude can really help you to gain perspective and realign yourself. Simply acknowledging something as fundamental as "I am grateful for waking up every day and embracing a new day" can have a profound impact. Try it and see for yourself!

Incorporating CBD into this holistic wellness routine holds tremendous potential for enhancing our well-being
. CBD, derived from the hemp plant, has garnered attention for its potential therapeutic properties, as consumers increasingly seek out natural remedies instead of turning to pharmaceutical medications. In the UK alone, there are approximately 1.3 million active CBD users, with an additional 6 million having tried it. Interestingly, studies show that 50% of millennials prefer using CBD over antidepressants, indicating a growing trend towards embracing natural alternatives*.

The effectiveness of CBD stems from its interaction with the human endocannabinoid system (ECS) — an internal mechanism responsible for maintaining various essential functions and regulating responses within the body. The ECS acts as a regulatory system, constantly working to restore balance when disruptions occur. It relies on specialised chemical compounds called endocannabinoids, which are naturally produced by our bodies. These endocannabinoids bind with receptors, helping to maintain harmony and equilibrium.

When we consume CBD, it acts as an "endocannabinoid" and binds to receptors located throughout our nervous system. This interaction stimulates the endocannabinoid system, which is responsible for a wide range of functions, including sleep, mood, appetite, memory, and more. The introduction of CBD helps facilitate homeostasis, the body's self-regulating process aimed at maintaining stability and optimal functioning.
