5 Ways to Boost Your Wellbeing Today

As it’s World Wellbeing Week, we thought we would shed some light on the little things you can do every day to achieve better well-being. If you are struggling with your mental health and want to make small changes that have a big impact, these simple steps could help.

Taking steps to improve your well-being doesn’t have to be a drastic change. Often, it is the small steps that add up to big changes. Since well-being is a pretty hard-to-define topic, this gives you the flexibility to decide what well-being means to you and what steps you would like to take to improve it.

Your sense of well-being may change over time, and what works for you when you’re in your 20s might not be what you need when you’re in your 30s and beyond. So, it’s important to check in regularly to assess what is important to you and how you can take steps to improve your sense of wellness.

What exactly is well-being?

Well-being is deeply personal and completely subjective. What represents well-being for one person could be drastically different for another. It isn’t a permanent state that you should strive to achieve, but instead a series of factors that can contribute to a greater sense of satisfaction with life.

Well-being encompasses a wide range of factors, including your environment, emotions, relationships, health, a sense of purpose and self-esteem. You might not achieve perfection in all areas at once. Instead, you should think of it as an ongoing process.

How do you improve your well-being?

Well-being is more than just happiness and life satisfaction. Researchers have tried to define and measure it, as this would be helpful to assess the quality of life of entire populations. But the complex nature of well-being means that it is multidimensional and often hard to pin down.

It is generally accepted that there are six different areas that make up our sense of well-being:

  • Health
  • Environment
  • Relationships
  • Security
  • Purpose
  • Community

You don’t have to tackle it all at once, but taking little steps to improve your well-being could help you to improve your outlook and get more satisfaction from life. With these in mind, here are five ways you can improve your sense of well-being.

  1. Embrace flow state

Embracing a child-like state of creativity is a great way to combat stress and boost your sense of well-being. And a great way to achieve this is by embracing flow state. A flow state is a mental state of immersion in the task at hand.

To achieve a flow state, the task needs to be challenging enough to hold your attention but not so challenging that it feels insurmountable. Some great flow state tasks to try include playing sports, playing games or getting creative.

  1. Support your body with CBD

Flow state is about more than just your mental well-being; it’s also about your physical health. One of our favourite ways to support wider health and well-being is with a daily CBD supplement. It’s a simple step you can take every day to help support your body.

CBD supplements interact with the endocannabinoid system, which plays an important role in many processes throughout the body. CBD supplements also encourage a greater sense of mindfulness about your health and well-being, as it encourages you to check in with yourself to see how it makes you feel.

If you’re not sure where to start with CBD, we recommend our most popular 1,200mg CBD oil. It’s easy to use, comes in four delicious flavours, and is completely free from THC. You can also choose between an atomiser spray or dropper.

  1. Spend time in nature

Getting closer to nature is a simple and effective way to boost your sense of well-being. Studies have found that immersing yourself in nature – provided you feel safe – can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels.

A recent study found that spending time in nature reduced feelings of isolation and fostered a better sense of community and belonging. So if there is a community tree-planting initiative in your area, this could be the ideal activity to help improve your sense of well-being.

  1. Treat yourself

Positive reinforcement is a great way to reward yourself for good behaviour and make small lifestyle changes permanent. And studies have shown that the pursuit of short-term pleasure is just as important for our well-being as having long-term goals.

You don’t have to spend a lot; sometimes, a small treat is all you need to give yourself a little boost. So grabbing a fancy coffee with your friends or treating yourself to new shoes on payday can contribute to an improved sense of well-being.

  1. Give back to your community

Humans are social animals, so we need a sense of belonging to complete the well-being circle. Well-being is about more than just improving things for yourself; you also need to feel like you are part of something bigger.

Studies have found that those who give back to their community through volunteering are less stressed, suffer from less severe depression and have fewer symptoms of depression.
